Growing up with 5 brothers and sisters in the family fruit shop in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney, Tony always found himself surrounded by quality produce. Sunday lunch at his Grandparents being the weekly highlight - an enjoyable ritual of seasonal produce prepared and served in a traditional, Italian communal setting.
After moving to Maroubra in 1983, Tony started running at school in Year 8 (1984), and with a few schoolmates, he entered his first of 30 'City-To-Surf' events, the famous 14km road race from Sydney to Bondi Beach.
Joining the Randwick-Botany Harriers in 1984 - and with the support of passionate club coaches - over the next 16 years he developed a genuine joy and passion for running.
In 2001, he moved to Melbourne and joined the mighty Glenhuntly Athletics Club, whom he still proudly runs with.
For over 10 years, he regularly trained with the Melbourne Midday Milers at the famous Tan, another fantastic and supportive running group, until a work relocation has put this on ice.
So, on Tony’s numerous trips to Italy beginning in 2002, he began to explore Italy’s running culture, and quickly learned the ins and outs, quirks, the good and interesting. Along the way, Tony has met some amazing supporters, discovered some unique events and along with them, amazing food experiences.
Having completed most of the events on these Tours multiple times, it’s now time to share them with you.
"In 2022, I begin hosting tours to running events I regularly partake in Italy - local events in locations usually far away from tourist hot-spots. Along with these regional running events, the authentic food experiences make these tours unique. You simply arrive and I take care of the rest" - Tony Russo
